Exporting

By the end of this guide, you'll know how to get your finished writing out of Draftingboard in any format you need.

The short version

Every document can be exported as Markdown for free. Pro users can also export as ePub, PDF, and Word โ€” and compile a full multi-chapter project into a single manuscript.

Markdown export

Free

Markdown is a plain-text format accepted by almost every writing app, blog platform, and publishing tool.

1

Open the document in the editor.

2

Click the Export button in the toolbar (or the ยทยทยท menu).

3

Select Markdown.

4

A .md file downloads to your device.

Your formatting โ€” bold, italic, headings โ€” is preserved in the Markdown output.

Pro export formats

The universal format for sharing formatted documents โ€” query letters, review copies, or anything you want to look polished in print.

Manuscript compile

Pro

If you're working on a project with multiple chapters, Manuscript compile assembles them all into a single document in the correct order. This is the step that takes your project from a collection of chapters to a finished, submittable manuscript.

1

Open your project.

2

Click Manuscript in the top bar.

3

Review the assembled document โ€” all chapters appear in chapter order.

4

Export from the manuscript view in any format you need.

Upgrading to Pro

Go to Settings โ†’ Subscription to upgrade. If you try a Pro export format without upgrading, you'll see an upgrade prompt with details on what's included.
